By: Ben Anton

Golf course managers are responsible for replacing parts in their course mowers, golf carts, trucksters when they begin to or completely go out. With proper maintenance, these kinds of replacements happen fairly infrequently. The engine may seem like one of the most difficult parts to replace because of the many details and factors that make up a good engine. It does not have to be difficult however.

When looking for a new or rebuilt small engine, there are several major factors to consider before making a purchase. Small engines vary depending on brand, size, and purpose of use but basic quality factors should be considered standard. Keep the following in mind as you look for a replacement small engine.

Power and Durability

When looking at various brands of small engines or refurbished engines, gauge and compare the power levels. You want to make sure that your replacement engine provides equal or better power than your existing engine. Have your current engine make and model with you and ask your salesperson or online retailer how it compares to the one you are looking to purchase.

It should also be a durable piece of machinery. Ask someone knowledgeable about the life expectancy of various small engine models or rebuilt engines. Additionally make sure that it can withstand heavy use in various weather and terrain conditions.

Environmental Impact

It is good to understanding how environmentally friendly the new or rebuilt engine is. Brands like Kohler and Briggs & Stratton have a reputation for building small engines that are less harsh on the environment because they give off less pollutants into the air and ground. They also tend to be more fuel efficient.

Get a Warranty

Always look for a good warranty on any small engine. While new engines nearly always come with a 1-2 year warranty, rebuilt engines do not. Always ask before purchasing to see what sort of warranty you can be guaranteed. A warranty will help in the event that your rebuilt engine has an existing problem when it arrives or it ends up being the wrong model or fit for your needs.

Ask Questions

Buying a new or replacement small engine is an infrequent experience. Don?t feel that you need to know everything about them in order to make a good decision. If you are unsure about what to buy, look first at brands that you know have a good reputation for creating robust, sturdy equipment that you can trust. Ask people you know what engine is in their carts, mower or other small engine equipped vehicle. Most will tell you of a small handful of well-known, respected brand names that you can then take to your retailer or online sales person to see about matching up a brand with the engine or rebuild kit you need.

When purchasing new small engines or when buying rebuilt small engines, take the time to assess some of these key factors before making a purchasing decision. This way you will increase your chances of getting the best, most reliable piece of machinery possible.

By: Luke Humble

With jobs for owner operators often hard to come by, lorry drivers and haulage workers may increasingly find themselves working the less popular anti-social hours involving overnight trouble. Not only do the darker conditions make crime more likely, but exhaustion is more likely to set in, and it?s very easy to make the kind of slip up that will add you to the growing pile of haulage crime victims.

And these haulage safety lapses are reflected in the statistics. Across Europe and central Asia between 2000 and 2005, 1 in 6 lorry drivers were attacked. Of those, 30% had been the victim of repeat assaults.

The main targets of the attacks were predictably the vehicle and expensive loads they were carrying (60%), but in over a third of the cases, the driver?s personal belongings were the target of the criminals (40%). Owner operators and haulage workers should never let their guard down in truck stops, where 42% of the attacks took place ? and predictably a massive 66% of all attacks occurred either in the very early morning, or late at night when poor visibility combine to create the perfect conditions for crime to thrive.

While those who have been the victims of haulage crime will find these statistics reveal no surprises, those who have managed to avoid trouble on the roads with their loads should not panic. There are various haulage safety precautions that can be undertaken to protect both you and your load.

Haulage Safety Tips To Reduce Crime:

- It sounds obvious, but equipping your haulage vehicle with a quality alarm system is the best deterrent when leaving your vehicle for any length of time. The initial outlay will be dwarfed by the damages to your reputation if your find that your load is stolen at the truck stop!

- Installing tracking devices can help the police recover your missing loads if you are the victim of crime.

- For overnight stops, make sure you only use official truck parking locations ? it simply isn?t worth the risk in going unofficial.

- Try not to get into a habit on your journeys ? varying your routes, favoured truck stops and times can make it difficult for a hit on your cargo to be scheduled!

- Parking up ahead of the ?Just in Time? delivery window ? although representing good time keeping ? can make you a sitting duck for crime, as it means you have to wait around.

- Keep your haulage vehicle locked at all times, and make sure your keys are secure. Obviously ?with the vehicle? never constitutes ?secure?.

- Every time you return to your haulage vehicle, give it a once over and look for any suspicious markings (e.g: cut curtain sides) which implicate your vehicle as a target for crime. If you have any doubts, let the police know.

- Resting and refueling your haulage vehicle should be undertaken at pre-authorised stops. If unavoidable, practice extra vigilance.

- Keep the contents of your truck to yourself ? you really don?t want thieves and dangerous types knowing of the riches and valuables in your lorry!

- Never pick up hitch hikers

- When taking a break, park somewhere where your lorry will be visible from the rest stop or café you?re heading to

- Ensure your load documentation tally matches your consignment

- Double and triple check the delivery addresses before you set off

- Take an inventory of your load as it enters and leaves your vehicle. Greater vigilance is required when another party is helping out.

Finally, make sure that ? if you?re using a freight exchange ? you can trust the people you?re doing business with. Our freight exchange allows for people to rate their business partners, so you can ensure that your future colleagues are above board and have a good reputation, before taking on new jobs for owner operators.

These haulage safety tips, alongside the usual care and vigilance you would take at night anywhere, should ensure that both you and your load don?t join the growing statistic of haulage crime victims next time you take on a freight or owner operator job.

By: Marilyn Bohn

This winter I went to a neighboring city for the day. When I left home it was partly sunny and I thought a light sweater would be enough to wear for the day. At the last minute I did take my jacket. In two hours time the weather changed to blizzard conditions. It was snowing, blowing, and the electricity went out. Because of the storm I was a bit concerned and wondered if I would even be able to make it home because of the blizzard. I thought I had every thing in the trunk of my car I would need incase I couldn’t make it home through the storm so I felt secure in being prepared, (or so I thought).

I checked the trunk when I got home and found I didn’t have any emergency supplies. What a rude awakening for me. I had taken out my organizer with my first aid kit, blanket, emergency kit, everything else I had for emergencies and had never put them back.

This past week I was out of town and my daughter noticed one tire on my car had gone completely flat. I confidently told her to use the’ fix a flat can’ in the trunk to get my car to the shop to have it repaired. It is an inflator and sealer for tires. It is a foam, very easy to use and will allow you to drive on the tire for several miles until you can get the tire fixed. I had to use this product several years ago and I know it works. What peace of mind such a simple thing gives to me when I am driving in my car. I don’t have to have a jack or tools and it seals and inflates in minutes.

No matter that the weather or circumstances it is a good idea to have some basic supplies in our vehicles. That means in very vehicle we or someone else in our family drives.

Here is a list of suggested supplies to keep in our vehicles in case of an emergency:

Booster cables and/or?A 3-in-1 12Volt power station. It includes, 1) an emergency jump start system; 2) a 12 volt DC power supply which is a portable power source for lights, radio, cell phones; 3) long-lasting illumination for roadside emergencies, work areas and camp sites.

Car Jack You may have to use it someday so it is important to know how to use it. (Actually practice changing a tire before an emergency arises).

Spare tire Check it monthly to make sure it is pumped up and in useable condition.

Fix A Flat in a can

A first aid kit.

Road Flares

There are roadside emergency kits you can buy that are ready to go.

A sleeping bag, blanket. I carried an old quilt in my trunk for years thinking it was warm. We had to put it to the test and found it was not warm at all. Select a blanket to keep you warm. It can also come in handy if you are changing a tire and have to lay down on the ground.

A flashlight that works, check to see if it the batteries are good every three months.

Water to drink

Sit down and think what you might need in case of a break down or an emergency when you are in your car and make up your own kit for your specific needs.

Keep everything organized in a container that fits your vehicle whether it is in a car trunk, jeep, truck, SUV or mini van. The peace of mind you will have from being prepared is worth its weight in gold.

By: Alex Baumm

Acquiring a car loan is, for a number of people, a major investment and as such should be carefully studied to assure you get the best car loan and make sure you don?t get an auto loan scam.

In getting a car loan, there are lots of things that you need to consider. These things are significant in the sense that they are guide points to make your auto loan a worry-free one.

Let?s start with the APR or the annual percentage rate. The law makes it mandatory that all companies engaging in car loan or car financing business to disclose all things included in the APR. APR is basically the group of fees and expenses paid annually. The APR is necessary when you wish to acquire a car loan. Essentially, this is the most important thing that you need to consider in terms of comparing one auto loan from another since it involves all the fees relative to the acquisition of an auto loan.

Next, at the time of car purchase, you need to pay a downpayment which is a sum of money you initially pay a car dealer upon securing a car loan. You have to make sure that your downpayment is credited in terms of how much sum of money you pay per amortization.

Next thing is the interest rate. Though not too much important as the APR is with reference to the buyer, you should also give due consideration on the interest rate of the loan. The interest is the percentage of the car loan that determines how much gain a company makes out of the transaction.

The loan term on the other hand is the length of the car loan.

The longer the loan term is the smaller the monthly amortization but this does not mean you should get a long loan term because when you add them all up, you actually lose much money in a longer loan term as when you get a shorter one. The key is to get the least APR. Keep that in mind.

The principal is actually the base of the car loan without any add-ons in it. This is the actual sales price of the car.

These are the major factors that you need to bear in mind when you decide to get a car loan. Giving them closer attention will enable you to become more educated in terms of getting things in proper perspective.

Although car loan companies are in general reputable, there is increasing number of car loan scams. These loan scams promise you heaven and earth but the moment you give your trust to them that?s the start of your nightmare.

They can really give you bunch of headaches and can get your money like winds blowing the sand in your hand. So, it is better to study offers of small or big companies when you plan to get a car loan. Give the company?s reputation due attention so that you will have a feel if what it offers is real or real scam.

It?s always advisable to do your own research about the standing of car loan companies. You just don?t have to rely on their sales talks because what they would tell you are all good for their own benefits.

By: Alex Baumm

Eleanor is not a person but a muscle car. This Gone in 60 Seconds 1967 Mustang is the complete embodiment of what muscle cars are all about.

Usually powered by a V8 engine, muscle cars were monsters of drag racing world back in the 1960’s until early portion of 1980’s. With extremely powerful torque, these cars are really going to give you a jaw-dropping ride. Muscle cars are no doubt fast cars with high horse power capability.

The moment you look at such cars, the first things you will see are their bulky curves and high-performance z rated tires which are true affirmation of the reputation that muscle autos are very much known of.

Muscle cars are different from sports cars we have today though some models are inspired by cars like the Ford Mustang. Though sports cars are fast cars like muscle autos, they surely won’t last a minute with the supreme torque that muscle autos have - which perhaps makes Eleanor the perfect Gone in 60 Seconds car.

The interiors of muscle cars are real statement of high performance, road warrior type of vehicle. The almost nil sign of elegance and the all heart-pumping design of muscle autos’ interiors match their rock and revving integrity that many a cars today try to copy but all in futility.

The moment you turn it on, you can’t help but notice the fiery breathing of muscle car’s engine. The hissing and guzzling is like that of a dragon sleeping always ready to get the tracks burning.

When you hit the gas, the dragon’s V8 engine charges in an instant ready to devour all things that block its way… just like when vin Diesel of The Fast and The Furious rages against the wall and hits the road with such awesome roar.

If what you are looking for is the car with an attitude that never allows being a second rater, muscle autos are the right choice. But prepare to be awestruck with the price because as of now it’s of a collector’s item kind of thing since you can not easily find one in the market.

However, there are companies and groups that want to bring back muscle cars on the road and these groups are actually buying old muscle autos and reconditioning them to make them roadworthy again.

There are a number of reconditioned muscle cars that can still be found nowadays. There is the all-time favorite 1966 GT 40, 1970 Superbird, 1968 Shelby GT500KR Fastback or 1969 Barracuda Convertible. These models of cars were once kings of the road in the 1960’s up to early part of 1980’s.

Although muscle autos are now rare species, there are a number of clubs that relive the greatness of muscle cars. These groups stage races and events all with the purpose of having some fun and reminiscing those days when muscle autos ruled the streets.

And thanks to the Internet, people around the world who share common interest in muscle cars now have a dependable means to showcase the glory of muscle autos and allow the younger generation to see the real muscle in high-performance driving via muscle cars.

However, experts give hope to car buyers and policy seekers by assuring that given proper procedure and initiatives, the effort to secure cheap car insurance is not impossible.

Here are some of the most practical tips any car buyer could observe.

1.You could secure a cheap car insurance by getting into a multi-policy with your current provider. For sure, you have a coverage for your health, your home or your life policy.

In your quest to find and buy cheap car insurance, always remember that you could realize a great and significant amount of discounts if you would buy a new policy from the same provider that provides you with your other policies.

2. Do a comparison shopping when finding for a cheap car insurance. As mentioned, there are numerous companies and policies available in the market.

By getting quotes from four or more policy providers, you could easily compare prices and premiums and at the same time determine which program offers the most reasonable, practical and comprehensive coverage according to your needs.

3. To be able to secure cheap car insurance in the future, it would be advisable if you would maintain a clean and good driving history. Do not speed drive or do any traffic or driving violation.

If you do, be aware that all your over speeding records are accumulated and compiled are being held as a reference to look at when evaluating your application for a cheap car insurance policy.

4. Solicit and consider recommendations and suggestions from peers and experts. You can always ask friends and other people who are more familiar to such services about any recommendations regarding the search and purchase of cheap car insurance.

5. As you finally buy a new policy, always intend to keep your responsibility. Aim to finalize and finish the buying transaction for the cheap auto insurance program. As always, as you buy a policy for your new car, be vigilant and extra careful in your choices and decisions.

After the World War II, muscle cars became an instant hit, as motorists and car buyers aimed to acquire vehicles that would showcase and show great power and speed. The term was basically a name description of what the car was to the industry.

Muscle cars were considered the instruments to bring back the glory and profitability of the global car industry. Muscle autos were hugely popular in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

With the emergence of many other car brands and more superior car models, muscle cars are now nowhere in the map of global cars. However, there are still some of those vehicles that are in circulation within the market.

Those muscle autos are now considered novelty and collectors’ items. If you happen to own one, it surely would be your interest to improve and revitalize the look and performance of your old car. Thus, you would certainly find ways on how you can rebuild and modify your muscle auto.

Here are some suggested procedures on how you can rebuild and revitalize the look and feel of your muscle autos. Take note that some auto detailing techniques may already be familiar to you, especially if you are into regular auto detailing.

1. Plan the restoration process ahead of time. Muscle cars are important and are sensitive cars. Any error or mistake on the rebuilding and auto detailing procedure could greatly harm and alter the overall appearance of the exterior of the car.

Thus, it would be advisable if you would do a research and ask experts on what to do right about your muscle auto. Make a simple list of things to do and do a checklist to serve as a guide as you do the rebuilding and modifying process.

2. Spend time and more effort rebuilding the body of the muscle cars. Pay particular attention to details. The overall body of the car should be given more care and proper treatment. Do you need to modify and do little changes at the engine and the overall system?

If you are not too familiar with it, just leave it to the experts. Just tell them what you want, what you aim and what you intend to do and let them do the rest.

3. Settle to do a major auto detailing. When the insides of the muscle autos are modified and improved, take time to do a major auto detailing process.

When you auto detail muscle cars, you aim to revamp and overhaul the total exterior and physical package of the vehicles. Repaint. Spend to repair damaged parts. Check the wheels. In no time, the muscle autos would look as awesome as new again.

4. To wrap things up, check the overall electrical system of the muscle autos. Pay attention to the electrical wirings responsible for the proper functioning of lights and horns. Make sure the battery is functioning well.

5. There is no need to change the overall physical appearance or the assembly of the body packaging, not unless you want to remodel your muscle autos. If you do so, your muscle cars would cease to be muscle cars and should be called through other names.

As your muscle cars take a new rejuvenation and look, always remember that muscle cars would not ever function like the modern powerful cars. During their time, muscle autos were the most powerful vehicles on the road.

By: Jeff Mohr

Every year hundreds of children and adults are injured and some are killed as a result of vehicles backing over these victims. Most back up accidents involve children under the age of 5 and elderly persons over 60 years of age. These backing up deaths occur in SUVs, passenger cars, trucks and commercial trucks as well.

In 2003 there were 91 deaths associated with people backing over people (although only 44 were from cars, SUV?s or pickup trucks). We?ve spent millions of dollars developing back-up alarms and back-up cameras ? some cars even come equipped with them.

But, in that same year, 143 people died as a result of a rear end accident to a passenger car or truck. So why don?t we make stronger rear bumpers or relocate the gas tank to protect the 143 people that die from fires resulting from a rear end accident?

Now don?t get me wrong, I?m all in favor of backup cameras and backup alarms. But I want you to take a close look at these statistics to see if we need stronger bumpers or tank relocation before we get backup alarms or backup cameras.

Fires occur in approximately 2.4 percent of all fatal crashes. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration estimates approximately 310 deaths per year are caused by post-collision vehicle fires. The largest cause of these fire-related fatalities, are rear impacts.

Jeff Mohr, CEO of Mohr Mfg and superbumper.com states: “Although fires are rare, they are not as rare as accidentally backing over someone. If you just take the statistics from 2003, and you consider only passenger cars, SUV?s or light trucks, you are over 3 times more likely to burn to death in a rear-end collision than you are to kill someone by backing over them!”

“When you consider just pickup trucks, you are over 2 times more likely to burn to death in a rear end collision than you are to back over someone driving a pickup truck” he added. And it’s a gruesome death. Usually the frame of the vehicle gets crushed to the point where the doors jam shut. And, because it’s almost impossible to punch your way through the safety glass, you end up trapped.

77% Of Fuel System Ruptures Were The Result Of Rear End Collision Damage. Why? Because The Fuel Tank On Most Vehicles Is In The Rear! And, rear-end impacts are three times as likely to result in fatal fire crashes. Although today’s gas tanks have protective bladders, the tank sometimes ends up separating from the filler hose and the gas starts leaking.

There are only two ways the problem can be fixed? Relocating the gas tank and/or shielding it from rupture or puncture. These are the two single and most practical solutions to fuel fed fires.

The rear end collision is the most frequent accident on the highway today. Shouldn’t we consider stronger bumpers, a better shield and/or tank relocation before backup alarms and cameras?
